Nakhchivan Teachers Institute

 

The Nakhchivan Teachers Institute was established on June 13, 2000 by Haydar Aliyev, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people. The status of an independent higher education institution was granted by the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated August 26, 2003. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participated in the opening ceremony of the modern educational complex for the use of the Nakhchivan Teachers Institute, which is about to celebrate its 20th year.

In the six-storeyed Nakhchivan Teachers İnstitute, 23 ordinary and 20 specialized classrooms, including four computer rooms and 16 electronic boards, were created. The modern educational complex includes library with traditional and electronic reading halls, 15 subject cabins, including fine arts, geography, music, civil defense, medicine, Azerbaijani language, higher mathematics and computer science, life science, anatomy and others, painting and sculpture workshops. The educational resources for them are provided with all necessary inventory and given to professor-teacher and student collectives. There are separate public catering rooms for teachers and students, a medical service room, and a publishing house “School”.  Here, for the first time in the Azerbaijani higher education, 5 individual counseling rooms and a “Psychological Service” lab were created for the teaching staff. A total of 158 personal computers, 16 laptops and projectors were provided for the use of students and teachers in the new teaching building. There is a gym that meets modern standards.

There are Student Trade Union Committee, Student Youth Organization, Student Scientific Society, Student Theater Studio, Fun and Ready witted Club, various sports departments, scientific circles and etc. serve to enrich the social life of students in the Nakhchivan Teachers Institute.

Nakhchivan Teachers Institute offers education for undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as additional education. Additional training provides access to continuous education for every citizen and serves to improve the development of human potential and the level of intellectual and vocational training of staff. Each learner who successfully completes the training is given a uniform certificate.

According to the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated August 14, 2019, the Department of Doctoral Philosophy was established in the Nakhchivan Teachers Institute in accordance with the changes in the “List of scientific institutions and organizations of higher education institutions of the Republic of Azerbaijan.”

In order to fulfill the Duties of the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan dated March 14, 2015, the employees with scientific degrees of the Nakhchivan Teachers Institute successfully hold classes at 23 general education schools of the Autonomous Republic. The project “Scientists of the Future” has been launched at the Nakhchivan Teachers Institute.

According to the Decree of the Accreditation Council of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, by the order of the Ministry № 232 dated 30.04.2019, it was accredited as a state higher education institution for 5 years. Nakhchivan Teachers Institute has the right to award its graduates diplomas in the specialties specified in this order.

The organizational structure of the Nakhchivan Teachers Institute consists of 2 faculties, 7 chairs and a department of Professional development and Retraining. The only scientific problem for the Nakhchivan Teachers Institute was identified as “The History, Theory and Learning Technologies of Science and Education”. Currently, 89 employees are conducting research on 78 topics in the fields and directions of the Nakhchivan Teachers Institute profile, it mainly concerns Nakhchivan regional issues and other scientific issues.

Currently, Nakhchivan Teachers Institute has over 1300 undergraduate students in 11 specialties (“Primary school teaching”, “Mathematics and Informatics teaching”,   ” Fine Arts teaching”, “Preschool education and training”, “Educational social – psychological service”, “Librarianship and information”, “Biology teaching”, “Foreign languages teaching” (Russian language), “Foreign languages teaching” (English language), “History teaching”, “Psychology”)

Of the 101 teachers engaged in scientific and pedagogical activities, 6 are doctors of science, 4 are professors, 42 are doctors of philosophy and 36 are associate professors.

The Journal of Scientific Works of the Institute are included in the register of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and are published four times a year with an international code. The Institute regularly holds international, national and regional scientific events.

The international relations of the Nakhchivan Teachers Institute are fundamentally restructured. Work is underway to cooperate with European and Turkish universities through Erasmus and Mevlana exchange programs. At the same time, projects are being developed to establish relationships with the world’s leading universities in the field of teacher training.

The admission of foreign students has begun since the academic year 2019/2020 at the Nakhchivan Teachers Institute. Foreign students are citizens of the Republic of Turkey and Nigeria.

The Innovation Lab (İnnoLab) has been established at the Institute. This lab  provides students with knowledge about startups, business projects and plans, and presentations of these projects, which will play a great role in terms of attracting young cadres to our future science. In order to optimize access to startups and establish operational links, the “Idea Bank” operates on the website of the Institute for the acceptance of startup projects. Anyone who has innovative pedagogical projects can apply to Idea Bank.

Today, in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, undergraduate degrees on Primary school teaching, Preschool education and training, Educational social – psychological service, Psychology, postgraduate degrees on the above three specialties are only available in this higher education institute. In addition, it is the only higher education institution among the 3 universities in the autonomous republic that operates in all areas of additional education. The Institute has a separate department for Professional development and Retraining. In order to ensure the continuous professional development of the education staff working in secondary education, pre-school education and out-of-school education in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the systematic work on the indicated aspects of the additional education is authorized to this university.

The effectiveness of the Institute’s staff has always been highly appreciated by our state. At the initiative of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Supreme Assembly, the 10- and 15-year anniversary of the Institute was celebrated at a high level, and several employees were awarded honorary titles and other awards. Currently, five of the teaching staff are Honored Teachers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 9 are Honored Teachers of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan, 1 is Honored Doctor of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, 2 are Honored Art Workers of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, 2 are Honored Artists of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

One of the strategic objectives of the Nakhchivan Teacher Institute, which has a special place in the Republic’s higher education system, is to establish its activity in the field of competitive staff preparation in the form of “Education-Research and Innovation” in accordance with global calls and to acquire the status of “Research University” in accordance with the legislation of the country.
